’Speed Buggy’ metal lunchbox, 1973
It’s funny how a cartoon that only lasted one season, 16 half-hour episodes, has maintained such a presence in our memory. Speed Buggy was broadcast on CBS, NBC, and ABC at different times plus wound up on Cartoon Network to introduce a new generation of viewers, so the brevity of production was made up for with longevity in broadcast.
Our pretend detective Jessica Fletcher gets a visit from a real (television) detective, Lennie Briscoe. Also featuring Lt. Commander McHale from the Navy, Geordi La Forge from space, a hopeful Dr. Kleema from Chicago, and the frickin’ Batman. Truly one of the most epic nights in television history.
