Television Hall of Fame: Reta Shaw (1912-1982)
When the script called for a domineering woman or housekeeper Reta Shaw was the character actress who fit the bill. Many recall her in Disney’s “Mary Poppins” and “Pollyanna” but those devotees of classic television know her from the characters she played in many sitcoms during the 1950’s and 1960’s, including her appearance on “The Andy Griffith Show” as escaped convict, Big Maude Tyler. Listed are the series in which she had a recurring role.
- The Ann Sothern Show – Flora McCauley – 1958-1959
- The Tab Hunter Show – Thelma – 1960
- Ichabod and Me – Aunt Lavinia – 1961-1962
- Oh! Those Bells – Mrs. Stanfield – 1962
- The Ghost and Mrs. Muir – Martha Grant – 1968-1970
- Bewitched – Aunt Hagatha – 1964-1972
