2015 Summer of MeTV Classic TV Blogathon
It’s that time again! On May 25-28, the Classic TV Blog Association will host its third annual blogathon featuring reviews and articles about TV series appearing on MeTV’s new summer schedule.
I’ll be blogging about Gilligan’s Island on Michael’s TV Tray. What is there to say about Gilligan’s Island that hasn’t already been said? Well, put on your sailor cap, get some coconut cream pie for your TV tray, and come find out on May 25. And don’t forget to check out all the other fun classic TV blogs that will be participating. See the schedule here.

Thank goodness for battery-powered portable radios.
(Are those PINE TREES in back of that tropical setting?)
Posting the Gilligan’s Island theme for two reasons:
1. When I got my start on tumblr I used to post TV theme songs.
2. Sad to say that the actor who played the Professor, Russell Johnson, passed away today [as did the actor who played Barty Crouch SR interestingly enough] so maybe by uploading this it’s kind of a tribute.*
*FUN FACT: In the first season of Gilligan’s Island, the Professor and Mary Ann weren’t included in the theme. It went Gilligan, the Skipper (too), the millionaire, (and) his wife, the movie star, and the rest. Bob Denver/Gilligan was instrumental in including the Professor and Mary Ann in the theme. So this is also a kind of tribute to Bob (who passed in 2005)
*DID YOU KNOW: The Professor’s full name is Roy Hinkley and (according to Gilligan’s Island creator Sherwood Schwartz) the Professor has 6 degrees. Speaking of names, the Skipper’s name is Jonas Grumby, Mrs. Howell’s first and maiden name is Eunice Wentworth, Mary Ann’s last name is Summers (people tend to forget that for whatever reason), and Gilligan’s first name is Willy- at least according to Sherwood Schwartz

Gilligan’s Island aired for three seasons on CBS from 1964 to 1967.The sitcom featured Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Russell Johnson, Tina Louise, and Dawn Wells.
Gilligan’s Island ran for a total of 98 episodes. The first season, consisting of 36 episodes, was filmed in black and white. These episodes were later colorized for syndication. The show’s second and third seasons (62 episodes) and the three (!!) television movie sequels were filmed in color.
Inexplicably, the witless show enjoyed solid ratings during its original run, then grew in popularity during decades of syndication, especially in the 1970s and 1980s when many markets ran the show in the late afternoon after school. (Adapted from Wikipedia)

Dawn Wells

Happy Birthday Dawn Wells!
