Puttin’ on the Hits was an syndicated music/variety competition show that aired on weekends from 1984 through 1988. The show featured amateur acts lip-synching to popular songs.
Allen Fawcett (top photo) acted as host and introduced such acts as a Mr. T look-alike who performed a lip-sync rap of Mr. T’s “I am Somebody,” a 17-year-old high school student doing “Freeway of Love” by Aretha Franklin, a 23-year-old jewelry salesperson from Atlanta doing Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield,” and a Billy Idol look-alike sneering his way through “Rebel Yell.”
